Minimum And Recommended Computer Configurations

To meet the minimum requirements of commonly used software and to use the Internet effectively, your computer should meet the following minimum specifications. These are MINIMUM hardware requirements.

All students must check with their department to see if there are additional recommendations in order to run the software their department deems necessary.

Tablets and Mobile Devices

Most modern tablet computers (Android tablets and iPads) do offer support for connecting to OSU Wireless and OSU websites. We also offer an "Ohio State" app for Android and Apple devices, free of charge.

Many e-Reader tablets do NOT support OSU Wireless due to their lack of support for enterprise Wi-Fi encryption. These include but are not limited to: Nook Simple Touch, Amazon Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Keyboard (however, the Kindle Fire DOES support OSU Wireless).

Vista or Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

To check your computer to see if it can run vista you can download a program from Microsoft called the Vista Upgrade Advisor or Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It can check your computers hardware and software and advise you on what components will not run under Vista. Currently the only Windows operating systems that are supported by the OCIO are Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Windows XP is no longer supported.
