Clearing web browser data

How to clear temporary data stored in web browsers' cache

If you are unsure of which browser you use, go to for basic information about your computer.

If your browser is not listed here, your version is not listed here, or the instructions do not match what you are seeing for some reason, please refer to the manual for your browser. This can typically be accessed by pressing the F1 key. Once open, search for instructions on "clearing cache" or "clearing cookies". Both functions will need to be performed. Alternatively, running a Google search for your browser's name ( for example Firefox ) and "clear cookies and cache" ( for example Firefox clear cookies and cache ) may yield instructions as well should you have issues with your browser's manual. In Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer on a Windows computer, the menu to clear cache can be found using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Delete.

Internet Explorer 11 and up


  1. Launch Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the Tools menu in the upper-right (it will look like a gear in Internet Explorer 9)
  3. Select Internet Options
  4. Under the General tab click the Delete… button
  5. Uncheck "Preserve Favorites website data", and select Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History
  6. Click Delete
  7. Exit your browser and re-launch it for the changes to take effect






  1. Go to the Safari menu along the top (click  Edit for Safari in Windows)
  2. Select Reset Safari...
  3. Check Remove all website data (You may want to uncheck the other options)
  4. Click reset


Mozilla FirefoxFirefox Website )

  1. Click the Firefox button in the upper left
  2. Go to the History menu (Hover, do not click)
  3. Select Clear Recent History
  4. Select Everything for the Time Range to Clear
  5. Check Cookies and Cache
  6. Click Clear Now
      If you do not see the orange Firefox button in the top left corner, use these instructions instead:
  1. Click the Tools menu
  2. Select Options
  3. Click on the Privacy tab (it should have a mask icon)
  4. Click on the blue link for "Clear your recent history"

Google Chrome ( Chrome Website )


  1. Click on the icon with Three horizontal bars (in older versions of Chrome, this icon was a Wrench) in the upper-right
  2. Go to Tools
  3. Select Clear Browsing Data
  4. Select the Beginning of time for Obliterate the following items
  5. Check Empty the cache and Delete cookies and other site data
  6. Click Clear browsing data


Android stock browser (up to Android 2.3)
  1. Open the browser
  2. Touch the menu button 
  3. Select More or More options
  4. Select Settings
  5. Hit Clear cache and Clear cookies
Safari for iOS
  1. Click the Settings app
  2. Select Safari
  3. Click Clear Cookies and Data
  4. Confirm this on the dialog that opens
