BuckeyeBox and Accessibility: a.box.com

BuckeyeBox Accessibility: a.box.com

Persons with vision disabilities who rely on screen readers and persons with motor disabilities who rely on keyboard access can use a more accessible design of the BuckeyeBox tool at a.box.com.

This version of the website is easier to navigate with a screen reader or without a mouse, and provides larger text and selection areas.

a.box.com still has limitations to performing equally to the original box.com website.

Please see https://community.box.com/t5/How-to-Guides-for-Account/Using-A-Box-Com-For-Accessibility/ta-p/2781 for details on Accessibility with BuckeyeBox

Desktop Sync

One such limitation is the ability to utilize desktop sync. If you would like to sync a BuckeyeBox folder to your computer, the IT Service Desk can assist you.

Keeping your BuckeyeBox documents organized can help you use the tool efficiently, without needing frequent assistance for synchronization. The Best Practices for BuckeyeBox in Your Course article covers how to organize and share your files efficiently: ocio.osu.edu/KB04194

Notification Settings

The a.box.com website also limits your ability to adjust your notification settings. The IT Service Desk can also facilitate any changes you’d like to make to your email notification preferences.

The default settings for BuckeyeBox users is to receive an email in the case of comments and deletions, for folders the user owns as well as folders they’ve joined as collaborators. Downloads, uploads and previews are additional notification triggers that can be added.

Sharing a Document

In the a.box.com site, you can share a document with the collaborators of the folder. You cannot share with someone who does not yet have access to the folder. This version of the site does not give you access to edit the collaborators on that folder, either. To make such changes, the IT Service Desk can assist you.

Getting Support

Students, Faculty, and Staff with disabilities who rely on screen readers or the keyboard alone for access to their computers experiencing difficulty with the limitations described above may follow the following procedures.

  • During regular IT Service Desk business hours, contact the IT Service Desk over the phone at (614) 688-HELP(4357) or in person at the BuckeyeBar, in 50 Thompson Library. The service desk technician will help you navigate through the non-accessible version of the Box website (via remote desktop technology) to make the changes you need to your account.
  • Outside regular business hours, contact the IT Service Desk over the phone at (614) 688-HELP(4357) and select option 4. A technician will call you back and help you navigate through the non-accessible version of the Box website (via remote desktop technology) to make the changes you need to your account.
